Wait, before going further let me clear one thing that- Types of skin on different parts are different. Like our lips get dehydrated more often as compared to the skin of our face or body.

Now the question is why our skin gets dry? Right?

This is very important coz if you want to solve the problem you should know the reasons behind that. If you’ll come to know about what exactly causes your skin to get dry, you can solve that problem in a better and quicker way.

Let’s start our topic with the causes of our problem. Why our skin gets dehydrated, dull and lifeless?

Dry Skin Causes

  • Dehydration

This is one of the most common reasons for dry skin. We all think with on brains that if your skin dries up too much then it must be dehydration. This is maybe a reason but lack of water is not only cause of dryness.

Now let us talk about dry and dehydrated skin. Dry skin and dehydrated skin are not the same things. Even if dry, as well as dehydrated skin, feels the same.

Dry skin is a type of skin that you are born with. It means your skin lack natural oils.

However, dehydration caused due to lack of sufficient water in the skin. This may happen due to several different factors like- less intake of water, too much makeup application and many more.

You must keep one thing in mind that your skin is the last organ to receive the nutrients, right? Though it is really very important to drink a sufficient amount of water so that at least a genuine quantity sip reached to your skin.

5 Characteristic of dehydration
  • Dryness
  • Dull and darker skin
  • Itchy skin
  • Fine line and dark circles
  • Eyes started sunkenly

What is the main cause of dry skin?

Your skin looks and feels dry, it means your skin lacks natural oils. And you should take proper care and should give proper nourishment to your skin.

Otherwise, it will start damaging and soon you will see fine lines and wrinkles. That’s why it is very necessary to find the exact cause of your skin dryness.

I must say that finding the exact cause also not that much easy task. Not everyone is an expert. But you can try to find the cause and here are the possible causes.

  • Soaps and Detergents
    Use Mild Detergents

Moisture of your skin striping quickly and this may be just because you cleanse your skin too often. Choosing the right face and body wash is crucial. As if your skin is dry and even after that you are using any face wash that for oily skin.

What will happen? The face wash will wash off all of the rest natural oil from your skin. Making your skin even drier this may damage your skin.

Not only body and face washes, but you should be a bit choosy in case of detergents also. Harsh detergents wash off moisture from your hand’s skin and make it look dry, dull, cracked and wrinkled.

  • Genetics

Experts at the University of Dundee, in Scotland, have reviled this shocking fact. This is something like if you have oily or too dry skin this may be your mamma or papa’s gift.

Jokes apart, this is really interesting to me. Yes, the type of skin can also be inherited from parents to the child. Some kind of mutation can cause dry skin and people with this problem has a high risk of developing eczema.

Check your skin type and try to take basic care and do basic skin care routines. If your problem is persistent in all seasons then, and other family members are also suffering from the same problem, then you may blame your mom or dad for this.

  • Medication

Sometimes Dryness also caused due to some medication. Find out if you are using any chemical exfoliates for acne treatment. These chemicals also make your skin dry.

But you don’t have to worry. You don’t have to give up any of these skin treatment chemicals.

Just reduce the frequency of the use of that product. It is as simple as eating a piece of a cake. Isn’t it? And never forget to do a patch test before the final application.

Sometimes the case becomes worst. We notice unusual dryness and patchiness but we keep ignoring until it turns into a big problem.

When we start searching for the cause and reasons of any of the problem actually that’s the warning point. So stop ignoring your skin problems and start the treatment of the problem (if any).

  • Allergic Reactions

Allergies left your skin with the unwanted dryness and damage. If the cause of your dry skin is not clear then it may be some kind of allergic reaction in your body.

Stay proper attention to your diet, medication and daily habits. If the reason for the problem cannot be traced then do visit your doctor.

  • Too much Makeup
Never forget to apply face primer before applying Makeup

If particularly talking about dry skin- there is no single cause of it. Dry skin may result from internal as well as external factors.

Well, External factors are more common and are easy to address too. But if your skin is dry because of an internal factor, it’ll not that much easy for you to find out and address it.

Internal factor includes everything like health, age, genetic and family history, and even your lifestyle.

External factors like low humidity and cold temperature. Winter is the worst season for your skin if you don’t take extra care of it.

Did you ever think about how your lifestyle affects your skin condition? Let me give you an example- You have a very good habit to keep things clean and you wash your hands and face as much as you think is necessary.

This may turn into your bad habit too. Yes, too much washing may result in dry and damaged skin.

But that’s not all, you’re eating and drinking habit are equally responsible for your skin condition.

What did you think? Is your daily routine is perfect or it just needed an observation?

Why Does Cold Weather dry out the Skin?

Dry skin is very common in winters. And you don’t have to get worried about it. You can keep your skin healthy and beautiful just by taking proper care.

But the question is- How does cold weather affect the skin.

In the winters environmental Humidity level drops down. Low humidity cause skin dryness.

When your skin doesn’t have enough natural in the outer layer, the moisture gets lost. Moisture of the skin escapes from if due to lack of sufficient natural oils.

Lack of moisture in the skin causing dry skin problem. It starts looking flaky, chapped and cracked.

Itchy skin

It is noticed that in some people winter cause itching and flaky skin. Skin looks dry, flaky and sometimes redness can be caused due to itching.

I am not talking about Eczema. Winter itch is not a disease, it’s just a skin condition. Chilling weather cause loss of natural oil from the outer layer of our skin.

Lack of oil in skin cause dryness. And dryness causes fine cracks in the skin. These cracks result in itch and in some case pain too.

But this is not a serious problem if you are not impatient. I meant if you will scratch your skin vigorously then it may damage to a serious level.

It is better to moisturize your skin instead of itching. Winter itch needs extra oiling. Yes, if your skin is super dry and you are suffering from winters itch then you need to apply a sufficient amount of oil to your skin instead of just cream or moisturizer.

Darker skin tone

yeah, that’s true Dry skin also result in darker skin tone. It may sound a bit different but that’s true. I personally experienced darkness on the drier area of my skin.

I have noticed the back of my hands turning darker in winters. It makes me worried and tends me to find the reason behind that.

Soon I realized that the back side of the hands get dry and rough just because we wash it too much. I have a bad habit of washing my hands with hand wash or soap more frequently.

Too much washing hands with soap washed out the natural oils from our hands. And our hands started looking dry, dull and aged. But the darkness seems to be the biggest problem isn’t it?

Dry skin starts damaging if not properly cared. A damaged outer layer of the skin starts forming the crust. The crust seems to be darker in color and makes your skin looks darker.

the ultimate solution to this problem is cleaning and moisturizing.

Chapped lips and skin

Chapped skin and lips are most annoying skin condition for me. Lipstick application gets really tough due to chapped lips.

Weather is already freezing cold out there and you should start taking proper care of your skin.

Start hydrating and moisturizing. You can do many things at home on your own.  Stop ignoring your skin problems that started popping out.

You don’t have to go to your skin expert neither needed any Expensive treatment. Just clean your skin with mild wash and moisturize well.

  • Stay Hydrated

You know what I meant by saying- Stay Hydrated. Drink as much water as you can. Yes, drinking sufficient amount of water in winters is as important as in the summer.

In winter we mainly love to drink beverages like coffee or tea. And generally forgot drinking sufficient amount of water.

This habit results in a lack of water in the body and skin as well. Dehydration cause not only skin problems but also many serious health problems. Never ignore if your body is craving for water.

  • Eat Healthily

You should include green veggies and sweet fruits in your daily diet. If you are planning to hydrate your body and skin will then start taking Celery and cucumber in your daily snacks.

Seasonal fruits like Watermelon or muskmelon are super fruits. I consider these fruits as superfruits do you know why?

The water content in these fruits is higher than any other fruit. If you eat fruits or take a glass of fresh fruit juice regularly, the chance of dehydration will reduce by 50%.

Start a healthy and tasty eating habit today. Eat fruits and green veggies as your morning snacks.

Sprinkle a pinch of salt and black pepper powder over your green healthy tasty salad. Or just pore 1-2 tablespoon of honey and eat yummily.

Do not forget to take your water bottle with you while jogging or exercise time.  Drink fruit juice and as much water as you can.

And most the important thing -do not forget to write me your favorite fruit and vegetable salad recipe. You can also comment below what you like or don’t like to eat. Then I will tell you how to eat and what is the best way to eat healthily.

What do you think about this Idea?

  • Deep Moisturize

Swap your ordinary Moisturizer with Organic Essential oils.

After eating healthy the thing you have to is to moisturize your skin to keep it healthy and beautiful. And by deep moisturize, I don’t mean to say that only apply moisturizer or anything.

In winters your skin needs extra care. But if your skin is dry type then you can’t skip moisturizer for even one day. You have to moisturize your skin at least 3-4 times a day.

Best way to keep your skin’s moisture is to apply essential oils instead of just

Moisturizer. Essential oils will fulfill the deficiency of natural oil in your skin and will keep it moisturize and glowing.

If you’re a lover of soaps with added fragrance, then from now think a while before applying it to your skin. Soaps with alcohol content and fragrances strip off natural oils from your skin.

These soap results dry, aged and damaged skin. Choose natural herbal soaps instead of these chemical-filled soaps.

Especially in winters, if you are using any harsh or high alcohol content soap then it may cause serious damage to your skin.

One more important thing that you should keep in mind- Reduce the frequency of applying soap to your skin. Wash your body and face with soap only if needed.

Change your habit of washing your face and hands too much with soap. Instead, wash it off with normal water if necessary.

Apply soap once or twice a day. If your skin is of a natural type then the frequency of application may vary. You may wash your skin with soap more than 2 times but it is better to avoid in winters.
